How many of you get phone contacts from people you cannot even understand? I am really getting piqued at phone contacts I cannot understand. Even when I comment I cannot understand their version of the English language, they just go on with whatever spiel they are making, as if they cannot understand my comments. This just irritates me more, so now I am just hanging up, as impolite as that may be.
Welcome to the club. I got a couple of calls from someone wanting to make sure I would be home (the next day after the call) so someone could deliver some papers because someone needed to be home to sign for them. This sounded like a legal issue. I don't remember the name of the company, but it was three names and sounded like a law firm. When I asked for more info they said the papers were for Julilan Cash. I told her I did not know anyone by that name and that she had the wrong number. She asked if anyone else in the household knew Julian Cash. I told her no and hung up. I was wondering if someone was checking to see if anyone would be home (setting me up for a home invasion). I'm just glad they were not persistant. How many other have received this type of call?
I also get a lot of calls that just hang up when I answer. They are from an out of town area code. Maybe the solicitors get paid for the number of calls they make, not the contacts that they actually talk to. They phone by my computer is an old desk phone (I keep it because if the power goes out I still have phone service). My caller I.D. is in another room and it is easier to answer my desk phone than to run to the other room.
I am wondering if there is a more suitable forum for this thread.
It has already been moved once, being deemed not specific to my local forum. So they moved it out here to oblivion. I deemed it relative to my environment, just asking if others in my area where being harrassed by the same type of calls. Apparently my idea of what is relevant does not mesh with the powers to be.
I get call from "Offshore" (India/Philippines mostly) call centers, calling with US number over VoiceOverIP (VOIP) lines with not enough bandwidth to support the calls. Calls sound very jumpy.
They are script readers. Hit them with something that is not on script, they
1. Have no clue, what to say as they find next script to read.
2. They just continue on their script like you didn't say anything.
Most of the time I have hung up before the end of the 1st minute.
There used to be a Do Not Call list, maybe there still is, but everyone ignores it because it has absolutely no teeth at all, and no enforcement agency gives a crap about it. Anybody can robo-call you from any country in the world, and just laugh at you (or curse you) if you mention the Do Not Call list. Next time youj get a violating robocall, call 911 and report this criminal acticity to the police. They will just laugh at you, too.
