Louisville does have a few things to brag about versus Nashville and Charlotte such as far more historic & vintage building stock and more walkable neighborhoods. However, a more vibrant downtown is not one of those things. How precisely does downtown Louisville blow uptown Charlotte and downtown Nashville away?

I have heard good things about Minneapolis and St. Paul. I think Minneapolis is more moderate priced these days but full of activity well into the late night with three pro sports teams, culture, dining and nightlife while St. Paul is inexpensive and improving with new restaurants/nightlife, NHL hockey team and their semi pro baseball team The Saints will be in their new DT stadium in the next two or three years.

Rent in downtown Indy goes as cheap as $400 a month for a cheap place, average is about $700-$800.
What's with this, "for a Midwest city" crap? The Midwest has huge metropolitan areas such as Chicago, Metro Detroit, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, and Milwaukee. It has many mid size beautiful cities such as Madison, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor. Toledo, Akron, Dayton, Fort Wayne. The Midwest is highly urbanized and at the same time highly industrialized and then at the same time highly agricultural. Moreover, the Midwest has beautiful coastal towns up and down the Great Lakes. Lastly, the Midwest has great educational institutions as well as Medical care. The Great Lakes Region is the crown of America.

Whoa, relax. If you reread what I posted I said, "fairly dense for a midwest city". For obvious reasons I'm not really including Chicago, it may be in the midwest but on a whole different level. I'm from the midwest, so I am not trying to take anything away from it. Also, in no way shape or form did I say Indy was more dense than any other city, just said fairly dense. Relax, not trying to insult the midwest.

I am not sure whether SouthStar Loft still has vacancy. It is down South Broad Street. I think the building will be done by next year 2014. Worth to check...

I agree on all counts plus would second Madison and Salt Lake in terms of affordable and vibrant.

LOL right! Philly has one of the most active downtowns of any major city-to say that cities like Spokane and Boise are more lively is pretty absurd. Trolls will troll lol.

Salt Lake yes, not familiar with Albuquerque or Boise...but Little Rock? Really? I couldn't disagree more.

I beg to differ. The whole downtown area is quiet every night, including weekends. Philadelphia is indeed not lively compared to many other cities. Old City area of Philadelphia is not what I consider downtown. The downtown area does, however, have some shopping and a few bars with restaurants around Rittenhouse Sq. and the immediate spillover streets. Walnut St. is mainly shopping along with Chestnut. nearly 100,000 residents and over 300,000 workers will not necessarily mean a vibrant downtown. It's mostly daytime downtown with attractions like the Liberty Bell/Constitution Center in the east and limited shopping and major offices in the westside of downtown with housing. It's still not vibrant, especially in the nighttime hours daily.
