Mine were from Munich, 150 years ago. I read somewhere that was a major source.

Upper Midwest (Chicago/Wisconsin) were primarily from Bavaria.
All over. I have German ancestry from Saxony, Wurttemberg, and the Palatinate. I've also got some Swiss-Germans in my tree and a few German speakers who came from Alsace-Lorraine while it was under French rule.
I don't think there is really any one place most Germans came from. As shown by someone else, if you narrow it down by time period, you can determine some locations where most immigrants came from just during those periods but German immigration covers so many time periods from colonial right through to the 20th century. And you could maybe also narrow it down by where they settled in America - for example, there's obviously a lot of people from Saxony in and around Saxonburg, PA. You can also do it by surname: Last Name Meanings and Origins | Search Surnames at Ancestry.com - This will give you stats under "Family Origin" of the most common locations immigrants with a particular surname came from.

I once heard that a lot of Germans from the Rhineland (Dusseldorf, Collogne) emmigrated to Missouri because Missouri in terms of landscape and climate is very similar to the Rhineland. There is even as small town that's called Rhineland, MO. Lol that's funny.
My great grandmother's people were from Rugen Island on the Baltic coast of Germany.
Oh, I love the Rugen Island. Marvelous place, I vacationed their a few years ago.
