Corvallis has had a mean high of 85 degrees over the past couple decades. That's not what I'd call a "cool summer"! In fact it's warmer than some areas of LA.
Well, unless you are from coastal California, that is a mild summer. A cool thing about Corvallis in the summer is the evening breeze which cools things down right after work, sometimes 20 degrees before dark.
I do think that just about the whole West Coast is overrated, in terms of cost of living to wages. PNW included. However, it is a majestic region, with beautiful coastal, mountain, and desert scenery. If that is not your thing, head on back to Cleveland or San Diego or wherever you hail from. Or try some place new.
I have lived about 2 decades in the PNW, and I would say that the best parts are:
1. Great outdoors with a lot of diversity in landscapes
2. Clean air (most of the time)
3. Big rivers and lush forests
4. Educated, environmentally-inclined population
5. Microbrews
The worst:
1. Gloomy, dark winters
2. Mildew climbing the walls
3. Lackluster economy
4. High cost of living
5. Few thunderstorms
Lackluster economy applies to Oregon somewhat, but not really Washington at all. The Seattle metro has one of the strongest economies in the Country right now.
Winter is only a few degrees warmer than back east, and lasts just as long if not longer
The difference is that Seattle is not windy and it doesn't feel as cold. Seattle winters feel like summer compared to Boston winters or anywhere in the northeast.

It's also darker being further north and cloudier.
Are people seriously that whiny? I moved from living in SoCak all my life to Seattle. Just yesterday biked around the city to run errands and loved it. If Seattle's weather is enough to complain about, then life must be generally pretty disappointing to that person. The natural beauty alone should inspire any living soul.
I came close to a job in Tacoma. There's no comparison in terms of mountains. Nothing in the northeast gets close although Mt. Washington certainly still has that wind record and is pretty much like the north pole.
There's a different sports scene. Soccer does quite well. A seattle sounders game can get 40k people where as most of the MLS can be lucky to get 12k. Some of this might account to other teams either moving or not doing as well. Sorry you ended up with Pete Caroll he keeps going back and forth so much.
Although I wouldn't say it's San Francisco it does have notable companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Nintendo and Starbucks.

Sure, but I was thinking generally about Washington, Oregon Idaho, and N. California. Outside a few urban areas, it is not really very robust. The collapse of the logging industry has cast a long shadow, but I think it has always been pretty slow. Seattle is a boomtown, for sure.

Hasn't the winter unusually good there so far this year? Still better than here, try biking for errands in the 20s. Yuck. Or even colder.
