For most people Alaska would not be ideal because of its ideal properties being far off the grid. If being close to civilization is important California, however Idaho and Montana are also good contenders.

Yeah what if you have a serious medical emergency like a heart attack or stroke. If your hours away from the nearest hospital, you're a dead man!

I voted other because I was thinking Colorado. This because I was recently researching places where there weren't building codes/permits, so you could build what you want. I found that in some areas of Colorado.
