other than Houston, TX. even the few rundown spots you find in houston, there will be some nice houses with lawns surrounding it. so you cant necessarily refer to it as "ghetto".

does seattle have ghetto areas?

Houston USED to have very few ghettos. But that was pre-Katrina. Just sayin.

Los Angeles has less rundown areas than Houston. Los Angeles has areas that are considered ghettos, but if see those areas for yourself you will be shocked.

This post is really random.

Houston has quite a few ghetto areas. I'd even venture to say more than average for a city its size.

The thing with Houston is you often times find million dollar developments right across or down the street from crack infested neighborhoods. This is due to no zoning regulations.

So yes, Houston has its share of ghetto areas. More times than not they're mixed in with the nicer parts of town which is what makes Houston so quirky.

A city/county the size of Houston/Harris County simply doesn't have all the necessary resources to keep the whole place looking nice. This is where people get the misconception that Houston is ugly looking.

If we're comparing Seattle to Houston in terms of "ghetto" areas, Seattle would win the fight. Seattle is also a lot cleaner than Houston too.

That's not exclusive to Houston. Cities like Newark, Chicago, Miami, Oakland, Memphis and even Detroit have areas like that.

People need to move past the idea that "ghetto" areas all look like the South Bronx circa 1978. A lot of poor and crime-filled areas are the inner suburbs with very suburban style housing stock.

What a way to start of a thread with such a strange statement. I guess "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I found multiple parts of Houston to look very ghetto, rural, and ugly. Houston also has a terrible crime rate, with high murder and rape statistics. Terrible example for this thread.

For proper examples, I would suggest any city in South Orange County (which is ultimately newer suburbs for the rich); Irvine would be my typical go-to answer.

Seattle is my example for major cities with no real ghettos. Very few murders and very little violent crime. Nothing "appears" ghetto due to the lush green vegetation which makes everything look very pretty even in the lower-income neighborhoods (which are rapidly gentrifying.) And ultimately in these neighborhoods, crime is still low. Essentially, compared to any other US city, Seattle has no ghettos.
