I never heard of Connecticut until the University of Connecticut basketball program in the 90's. Then nothing, until I came here. What is evident, even from earlier posts here is that Connecticut tries very very hard to associate with another city in another state. It doesn't seem to want to develope its own identity. It's even spelled out in their name for all to see, their need to connect to somewhere else. Connecticut!
... that's only Fairfield County, and maybe southern Litchfield County that associate more with metro NYC. The rest of the state has a completely different demeanor!

Both Fairfield and New Haven County are part of the NYC metro, as well as extreme southern Litchfield County. Commuter rail extends to New Haven, Waterbury and Danbury, and soon a line will be extending to New Milford. That consists of a large percentage of CT's population.
I think CT prides itself in embracing a suburban yet almost rural way of life. It feels so far away from the big city, yet it's so close. IMO that's why the general population is usually referred to as being so reserved. They aren't rude by any means, but private and conservative, while being socially liberal.
Now when it comes to driving in CT, well, that's another thread...
I live in CT and never see much about it on the forums. Does anyone know we exist? If so, what do you know about CT, its people, culture and geography?
Nobody seems to know how to identify the Constitution State.
Merry Christmas
I spent a week in Connecticut a few years back and fell in love with it! We stayed with some friends at their home on Rogers Lake in Old Lyme. My husband's family were some of the earliest settlers in the Old Lyme area dating back to the 1600's. There were historic markers all over the place with their family name on them.
Everyone I met was as friendly as could be....very nice people. Drove around a lot, along the Connecticut River, Groton, Mystic, etc. Went up the coast to Rhode Island where we bought a live 7 pound lobster......YUM!!!!!
We took the ferry over to Block Island and had a blast exploring all day on a Honda 50.
LOVED the wild blueberries! I would go back in a heartbeat!
Fairfield County is like a world away from the rest of the state. I can't necessarily describe it, but I think for the most part (not entirely) they watch NYC news stations, listen to NYC radio stations, stuff like that.
Real Estate wise, they even are completely separate from the rest of the state. Recently the state joined some of the MLS's to form the CTMLS, however, Greenwich has it's own, New Canaan has it's own, and I think Darien has it's own. The rest of the state is together.
Our news stations hardly EVER mention things that go on in Fairfield County. It's almost like it's not part of the state...they just use the name. Like I said, it's hard to explain, but it's a world away!
