Hawaii is Cali West,
Alaska is Oregon North,
Arizona is Texas West,
New Mexico is Nevada East,
Minnesota is Michigan West,
Alabama is Indiana South,
Maine is Massachusetts North,
Florida is Jersey South.
I guess I'm in the minority of people who think that the two state have certain things in common.
If you love the Sierra Nevadas (or even the high mountains in SoCal like the San Jacintos), you'll probably love the Rockies and vice versa (even the the mountain ranges still have a lot of differences.

California, not "Cali." Cali is a city in Colombia.
Huge pet peeve of mine. I don't understand this irrational fear of syllables that has swept the nation.
Same! I don't understand why some people can't just spell out "California." I can't stand when it's referred to as "Cali." It drives me crazy. "Frisco" is starting to get annoying, too.

Yep. And so is "SoCal" and "NorCal". I think everybody should just start referring to whatever state they're from with the first syllable, followed by a "y" or an "ie". For example, Texas could be "Texy", and Washington could be "Washy". Illinois can be "Illy". Since I live in Eastern Washington, I'm from "EaWash".
