I included all the other regions in the poll options, despite the fact that a lot of them are very diverse. It doesn't always mean anything imo, they can still be very conservative in my view, especially among the white population.

I will also make it multiple choice if you believe some of them are too close to call.

I guess that's "Interior Northwest", Idaho and Wyoming at least.
Colorado maybe Midwest.

Socially, politically, and culturally, the most conservative region in the U.S. Is arguably Appalachia, which runs from southern (?) New York State down through northern Alabama, and thus spans several geographic regions.

These places. along with Nevada and Montana, are high for individualism, but lower for traditional values. They are more Libertarian.

I'm no expert on the region or anything, but it certainly feels like a bad argument in the making to say every single part of Appalachia is the same socially, politically, and culturally.

If you are including Pittsburgh in your definition of Appalachia for example, a place I've been to multiple times, I would definitely consider it an incorrect assessment.

You can argue about whether Pittsburgh is truly an Appalachian city, for sure, and there are a few notable liberal exceptions in the region, notably Asheville. But on the whole, this is a rigidly conservative part of the country, from all the way North to all the way South

Fair enough.

About the second part of the argument, I think political view is one that can be confirmed to a good extent with voting patterns. It will be interesting to see them for parts of Appalachia that are not the South, like in Upstate NY or Pennsylvania. I will try to take look at it when I feel up to it.

One thing I feel like I should point out though, despite the really dire amount of redneck/hick type population the Republican party attracts, there are still people in the country that vote for them due financial reasons, rather than conservative ones.
