for the US, I'd live in NYC, Manhattan specifically in Greenwich Village, Chelsea, the UWS right on CPW, or UES anywhere between 59th and 80th and 5th and Lex. Other than that, I'd rather live abroad in a gorgeous terraced home in West London, or somewhere in Central Paris. But for now, I can only dreem.....
Austin, on Lake Travis, looking west to the sunset. NYC and San Fran are wonderful to visit but for day to day life, Austin will do nicely. There's nothing that I would want that I couldn't get there, and a lot that can't be had anywhere else.

I'd stay in LA, but live in a nicer part of town. I may get a nice home in Manhattan Beach or a place in the Hollywood Hills. I'd also enjoy living in a nice house in Pasadena or one of the other foothill communities. For my preferences (urbanity, culture, topography, weather, food, beach) I believe LA to be the best fit.
Money is no object? New York (Manhattan) in the summer, San Francisco Bay rest of the year.
