I've always wanted to visit Toronto. I got glimpses of it in a tv show, police drama in the nineties. Can't recall the title. The only Canadian city I've really visited was Montreal.

This is what I thought too-nice city though. I took the MegaBus there from Philly.

I prefer the architecture and more human-scale feel of Montreal though.

PS-Toronto is not the 3rd largest city in NA. The biggest 3 cities are more than twice the size of Toronto (Mexico DF, NYC, LA), which is comparable to SF, Boston, Philly, DC, etc.

I've been. Definitely felt like a big city, and it is. A lot to do, with an expansive, walkable downtown. People seemed very snooty and off-putting. Had a NYC vibe to it. Might as well have been there, IMO. Found Montreal to be far more interesting, friendly, and accommodating. #TwoCents

What does "shockingly diverse" mean? I can't imagine being shocked by a big city having lots of different types of people.

One of my favorite North American cities. Being that it's both the financial and entertainment/cultural center of Canada, it's kinda like a smaller scale NY and LA rolled into one.

I've been to Toronto several times. I rather like the place.
First time, the wife and I were on a road trip from Colorado, home to Florida, by way of Maine.

Toronto was great. people were friendly, traffic was easy, and there was a lot to do.

Since then, I have been there for work, several times. I never found a neighborhood that felt unsafe. Always found good restaurants and cafes.

I plan to...I have family in Canada. It's just not the first place on my list when traveling internationally.

I've been there once for a few days. Walked tens of miles. Also have seen thousands of photos online particularly related to projects.

Toronto does everything really well. Density, diversity, etc. Great city, but lacks the special oomph that would make it iconic like Sydney or San Francisco.

To be way overly simplistic, it felt like a less dangerous version of Chicago with a crappier lakefront. I enjoyed it though, and I would go back.

That being said, it's the 4th largest city in North America. Los Angeles is #3 going by city limits, after Mexico City and New York City respectively.

Yeah, I didn't understand that part of the original post. I don't think people that a major Western Hemisphere city is diverse.
