M-Dot doesn't like the local media using freeway names but too bad, everyone still does. What's your area's freeway names or do they go by Interstate number's only ? I'll begin.
Metro Detroit Area
I-75 "The Chrysler Frwy." north of Detroit / "The Fisher Frwy." south of Detroit / "Detroit-Toledo Expressway" south of Downriver suburbs and beyond.
I-94 "The Edsel Ford Frwy" east of M-39 / "Detroit Industrial Freeway" west of M-39 / "James O'Hara Memorial Frwy." east of 8 mile.
I-96 "The Jeffries Frwy." east of I-94 / west to I-275.
I-696 "The Walter P. Reuther Frwy." / all of it.
I-275 No name to date.
M-10 "The John C. Lodge Frwy." from Detroit to 8 mile, then it's called "Northwestern Hwy." to 14 mile.
M-8 "The Davison Expressway" from I-96 to Conant; (Detroit city limits.)
M-39 "The Southfield Frwy." from M-10 to I-75.
M-53 "Van Dyke Expressway" from 18 mile N. to Romeo area.
That's all the named Freeway's, most names are used in media and conversation's except I-94's Detroit Industrial, James O'Hara, and I-75's Detroit-Toledo.

Houston tends to use common freeway names in lieu of interstate numbers. And similar to above, the freeway name changes depending on what side of town it's in. For example, I-10 west of downtown is called the Katy Freeway, but east of downtown, I-10 is the East freeway. I-45 north of town is the North Freeway, but south of downtown, it's the Gulf Freeway, and so on.

I-45 "North Fwy" north of Downtown, "Pierce Elevated" through Downtown, "Gulf Fwy" south of Downtown.
I-69 "Eastex" Fwy north of Downtown, "Southwest Fwy" west of Downtown.
I-610 "The North Loop, East Loop, South Loop, and West Loop" Depending on which side of town you are on.
US-90 "Crosby Fwy"
US-290 "Northwest Fwy"
TX-8 "North Sam Houston Parkway" and "North, South, East, and West Sam Houston Tollway" depending on the side of town you are on. Other just refer to this expressway as "The Beltway."
TX-99 "Grand Pkwy"
TX-146 "Baytown Fwy"
TX-225 "Pasadena Fwy" from Downtown to Pasadena and "La Porte Fwy" east of Pasadena
TX-249 "Tomball Tollway"

Three other limited access expressways are toll roads that don't have a state highway number:

So, 19 named expressways. I would bet the most named expressways would be in NYC or LA, but I'll leave it up to someone else to name them all. Firebird did LA, lets eee if someone will do NYC.

NYC is the only place I've been where they NEVER use the highway number. It's always BQE, LIE, Eisenhower, West Side Highway, Hutch, Henry Hudson, Jersey Turnpike or Garden State Parkway. I don't think most people in the city know most of these route numbers.

Interesting thing is that the New Jersey Turnpike is so iconic, but the most heavily trafficked part is really just I-95, which is itself pretty iconic.
