Commuter rail, Amtrak, and (fastest of all) express buses every five minutes already do.

No, I don't think that anyone is saying that Tacoma is a hardcore ghetto. It is a blue collar working port city that was rough around the edges and is now gentrifying since demand is increasing and the price is lower than Seattle and surrounding areas.

Amazing.
There is no "hardcore ghetto" in the greater Puget Sound area.
Closest areas are probably a couple neighborhoods in the South Seattle area.

For the Oakland-Tacoma analogy to work, you'd need too add a lot more blacks and Mexicans into the equation with respect to Tacoma. As of 2010, over 60% of Tacoma's population is non-Hispanic white. There isn't a major city in California that's been over 60% white in many, many years.

This. And a lot of deep social ills. But everything is relative. I see what your saying. Being from back east i Would liken Tacoma to Providence and Seattle to Boston. That's a closer analogy than Seattle-Oakland but ik most people on this forum aren't familiar with the New England area.

Providence-180k people 40 miles south of Boston
Tacoma- 200k people, 32 miles south of Seattle

Boston-45% White , Providence 33% white
Seattle 67% white, Tacoma 60% white

Providence art scene is greater than Boston, same with Tacoma over Seattle

Area in between Boston and Providence experiencing growing poverty, same with Seattle and Tacoma.

Why are you using municipal populations? How are those relevant?

Not the first time I've heard the Tacoma-Providence comparison. I've only seen Providence in pictures and on TV, looks to be a very pretty town. I also had read there's a roughness in that town as well. Now I'm curious about Providence.

I hadn't realized Providence is that close to Boston.
