What are some denonyms for N. American cities that you find cool/interesting/unique? I've always been interested how a cities name is turned into an identity in which its populace can claim, and how different they can be based on the suffix. I've also searched far and wide for a similar thread, but it seems like there isn't one.
Here are some for some of North America's larger cities (ranked by MSA):
Mexico City - Capitalino, Chilango, Defeño New York City - New Yorker Los Angeles - Angeleno Chicago - Chicagoan Dallas-Ft. Worth - Dallasite, Dallasonian, Ft. Worthian, Ft. Worther Houston - Houstonian Toronto - Torontian DC - Washingtonian Philadelphia - Philadelphian Miami - Miamian Atlanta - Atlantan Boston - - Bostonian
Obviously some of these wouldn't be considered "interesting" or "unique" as many just add -ian as the suffix, but I do want to hear about any city, big or small, especially if it has a strange name. Another thing that might be interesting is if anyone knows of any cool history relating to a certain cities denonym. Feel free to add whatever you like as long as it pertains to the main topic.
Phoenicians are residents of Phoenix. Even though that's sort of just adding -ian to the end of the city's name, that's still a cool denonym for obvious reasons.
Some other North American denonyms I find interesting-
Albany, NY- Albanian Calgary- Calgarian Halifax- Haligonian Iqaluit- Iqalummiut Key West- Conch (informal, and strictly only applies to a native, which includes my mom's dad.) Little Rock- Little Rocker Nashville- Nashvillian Sequim, WA- Sequiminite (city name pronounced "skwim", so "skwim-in-ite") Salt Lake City- Salt Laker Yakima- Yakimanian (unofficial, but some people seem to use it) Yellowknife- Yellowknifer
And plenty of places lack accepted denonyms, such as Sioux Falls (recent article discussing this conundrum), or residents go by names unrelated to the place name, such as Massachusetts (Bay Stater is the official denonym, though Massachusite is also a traditional denonym.)
Baltimore -- the official one is Baltimorean. Unofficially, and self-deprecatingly, some people use Baltimoron.
Maine (a state, not a city) -- the official one is Mainer. But I've heard Maniac used as well.
New Jersey (another state, not a city) -- I've heard both New Jerseyan and New Jerseyite; not sure which one is considered correct.
Hawaii (yeah, I know, another state) -- technically, the term is Hawaiian. But that term tends to be reserved for people of Native Hawaiian ancestry. So honestly, I'm not sure what a resident of Hawaii who is not a Native Hawaiian would call himself.

Reason: Spelling correction - - again (sigh)
