Albuquerque feels like a giant suburb of itself.

Jacksonville, FL. Consolidation with Duval Co. has given Jacksonville a monster city population of over 900,000. It's over 700 square miles so you can drive 30-40 miles out of the way and still be in Jacksonville. Not many cities can make that claim.

Phoenix is only suburban on the north side and in the "Ahwatukee" neighborhood. The rest of the city, while not Manhattan or the Chicago Loop, is fairly urban

I’m kind of surprised Louisville has been brought up.

Besides the usual downtown areas, there is only a couple neighborhoods/areas that have an urban feel. The rest of the area allows for large yards, land, etc...that you would find in “suburbia”. To me, this is a massive perk (as I prefer the suburbs/rural areas) and I hope it stays this way.

What you're counting as urban in Phoenix would generally count as suburban in most of the US.

There are only a handful of cities in the US that don't feel suburban outside of the downtown.
