That is also a nice house. But, the house I shared was extra special--at least to me--because it was designed by H.H. Richardson. It's almost like having a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Richardson, like Wright, even has his own architectural style: Richardsonian Romanesque.

(Actually, now that I think about it, you could also probably find FLW houses for sale in smaller cities, that are $250k or less.)

It looks like Buffalo has architecture from both of them: Frank Lloyd Wright Buffalo, NY | Visit Buffalo Niagara

Richardson in Buffalo

I’m not sure if there are homes for sale there designed by either one in the city though.

I love how those beautiful foursquare and such back east are so cheap. Makes me a tad jealous. The bungalows and foursquares out here are never cheaper than 400k it seems. A lot of them are being revamped in their interiors and selling at a much higher price around these parts. In contrast, many of these bungalows are also in Tucson and would qualify at being 250k or less. Partly due to Tucson having more historic housing supply in general, and the fact that Tucson is much, much cheaper.

https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sal...29_rect/13_zm/ here is a bungalow near Downtown Phoenix in the Garfield district at 265k. Not any other historic listing that's even close to being that cheap out here.

Here is a comparable bungalow in Tucson at 227k in a walkable, good rental income area next to the university: https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sal...t/13_zm/0_mmm/

Depending on your definition of “small” and “diverse”, those definitely exist.
