No to Savannah, Virginia Beach and Charleston because as I said I don't want to deal with hurricanes.
Charlotte, Nashville and Austin are no go's due to cost of housing and size of city not meeting my criteria.
Other cities in Texas maybe, need some suggestions. Have lived in TX before in Dallas which along with Houston, San Antonio and Austin are either too big or expensive. Plus Houston gets storms as does Galveston, Corpus Christi etc. so where else?
Pennsylvania maybe...had a friend who lived outside Philly on Mainline so have been to Lancaster...will need to look at taxes and housing costs, etc.
Sorry to hear Athens GA has high crime, it gets great write ups in magazines for being a vibrant university foodie city....maybe other towns in GA?
Cookeville, TN IS a possibility, just a little further from an airport than my employer might like...
Roanoke, VA is a possibility
Richmond, VA would have fit, but I checked into it 1.5 years ago and it has become too popular and therefore too expensive.
Newnan, GA - that one is intriguing as I am looking for those under the radar gems...the already discovered places like Greenville, SC end up with the issues of being popular...rapidly rising costs, increased traffic, change in local culture, etc. so I am hoping to see people submit more Cookevilles and Newnans!!!
Doesn't mean I didn't appreciate everyone taking the time to write down some cities, just think the undiscovered gems would be a better way to go
Cincinnati has relatively reasonable housing costs and isn't too huge of a city. The climate is a bit warm for me but it isn't miserably hot or cold I guess. There is quite a bit to do so I guess it wouldn't be boring.
How about York or Lancaster, Pennsylvania? Small cities with decent climates. Close to Philadelphia and Baltimore. Lot's of historic homes at your price points. Lot's of history and culture and amenities.
Thought about Carlisle and maybe parts of Harrisburg as well.
