I'm talking about the Mafia as in the Italian mob. Is there still mafia activity in places like Chicago? It seems like the hispanic and black gangs pretty much dominate that city.
The mob isn't as active as it used to be. They've moved into the suburbs for the most part- But NYC, Chicago, Newark, Boston, Providence, and New Haven had a lot of Mafia activity. Times have changed though.
For the most part- Blacks and Latino's are the present gangs we're dealing with at large.

Well what are the primary "mobs" these days? I've heard of the Mexican mafia, the Russina mafia, and the Italian mafia...so if I had to guess I'd think NYC, Boston, Philly, Phoenix maybe -- possibly Providence.
Well it's not the "mafia" in Chicago, it's the Outfit, it never incorporated into the Five Families. There's a little of it left in Chicago but relatively speaking from the 60s, almost nothing.
I would have to say New York wins by default, though that seems largely deteriorated as well. But in Chicago you're literally talking about a handful of old men.
Today's mafia just ain't the Mafia of old. But I agree with posters who mentioned Providence, RI. If there's a city that comes to mind where the mafia still has a bit of a foothold, it's Providence.
