It's not fair!! Of course Cleveland may be a hair too cold for the family. Every city represented well...except the coasts and Denver. But, flipside is, you have great scenery and have a lot of things to do in those areas.

Definitely not the pickings available just a couple of years ago, but the current best under $100k move-in ready:

East Side: $59,900: https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...-57751?view=qv

First Ward: $59,900: https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...-67629?view=qv

This house sold for $5000 in 2013, and $62,500 in 2014. It seems priced too low today. Looks like great bargain.

I'm in western Kentucky, fairly rural. Step daughter and son in law bought a 3 br 2 bath brick home on 14 acres for $120,000.
Here's something closer to me. I'm about 25 miles south of Paducah, Ky, if you look at the map.

I’m going to need some neighborhood breakdowns on these. Most Rust Belt cities have a plethora of dirt cheap homes, but they are usually neighborhoods that people who have a choice wouldn’t live in.

One good thing about rural/small town upstate NY, our taxes are high but our home costs are low! $250k will get you a seriously nice place here.

Montour Falls-

Watkins Glen-

Odessa-

You can even get some great homes here for only 50K ish.

The homes shown would be priced at 2 to 3 times these prices as similar homes in the "better" neighborhoods in the city. The East Side homes are predominately minority. I wouldn't call any of the areas listed as especially "bad" or dangerous, but they are working class areas.
