Getting your med's along the border: where do you go? (buying, price)

The US has some of the most ridiculously priced prescriptive drugs in the world. While the legality of buying drugs over the border (whether north or south) is lacking, people still do so, I am sure.
Thus I'm asking those of you in places like San Diego, El Paso, Seattle, Detroit, and Buffalo: do a lot of people in your metro area go across the border to Mexico or Canada to buy their med's or very few? And how dangerous is it to do so?
Note: I am nowhere near a border so my question is merely curiosity, not any sort of plan I have to carry out.
