I have narrowed down our list to Idaho and Montana. What areas/towns should we consider closer to the mountains? We are going to check out both on our road trips this spring. How populated is the greater Boise area? We do love Bozeman area, that is top on our list. Is there a comparable in the greater Boise area or do we need to be more central or south? We are hoping for a town similar to Bozeman that is centrally located.
Anything less congested in the whole Seattle/Eastside metro area!
Estimated City Population is near 240,000 and the Metro around 750,000 and CSA of 811,000.

In Montana other than Bozeman?
Near Boise: The Long Valley area which includes Cascade and McCall. Highway 21 between Boise and Idaho City has several alpine living areas. Garden Valley is about 45 minutes to an hour north of Boise and is in the forested mountains and has a small town with growing residential areas and people living there will commute to Boise for work. Keep in mind that these are all small mountain town/resort areas, but near Boise.
If you are looking for a small college town similar in size to Bozeman, then you might be interested in the Moscow area which is North but it doesn't get as much rain/snow as Coeur d'Alene northwards to BC. Moscow is liberal, quaint, located in a scenic area of green hills and forested mountains.

We will be visiting MT next month. Which areas around Bozeman (within an hour) have more thriving opportunities for cash flow with real estate investing...for house hacking and rentals? same with Idaho?
We are back to square one. We did a long road trip from MT to S/E Idaho, to WY and back. I realized I could NOT live anywhere without lush greenery, lakes, & alpine craggy peaks. Are there any similar areas that are in a "banana belt" in Northern ID to Western MT? Weather is similar to the pnw, but I would love more snow. I am only 8 hours from there. Plan to make another trip in Sept. I have not explored NW Idaho to Flathead yet.
We love MT! What smaller high alpine areas (mountains/trees) in CO? Don't need to be near a city. Western slope to Durango? Looking into CO.
Have you looked into Evergreen, CO? It’s a Denver suburb but it’s actually in the mountains. A little pricey though. Also I highly suggest looking into the Dillion/Frisco/Silverthorne area. It’s kinda reminiscent of what you find in the PNW https://goo.gl/maps/w1MfvENP7wg5a8r76
