What are your favorite affordable urban neighborhoods where one can get a 1 bdrm condo for under 500k. Must have access to rapid transit and located in a msa over 3 million.
DC is the most surprising. I didn't expect there to be so much in that price range in that type of city. Isn't Dupont Circle highly desirable? The condos in that price point are small but they do exhist.
Unless you are living in some ultra fancy area like Beacon Hill in Boston, large portions of manhatten, and San Francisco, etc. I’d bet you’d be able to find some type of condo for under 500k. Now under 250k, that’s different.
You can find a condo for under 500k in most of DC.
Yeah, I don't think 500K for a 1 bedroom condo is affordable, even by today's inflationary standards.
In Philadelphia, you can 1 BR condo in our nicest Center City neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square, for well under 500K. I see one on there now which has amenities such as a HOA gym and rooftop pool for only $350K.
IMO, to qualify as an "affordable" 1 BR condo, the price tag should, at the least, be cut in half to $250K.

Philadelphia is one of the best kept secrets for affordable urban living. I've had my eye on Center City Philadelphia and Capitol Hill Seattle for a while now. Philadelphia is the best deal going imo. Costs of living to income ratio is fantastic!

Center City Philly has a much different vibe from DC's options or Capitol Hill in Seattle. It's very urban in terms of grit and grime which some find "authentically appealing" while others just find it kind of gross. The feel also gives a sense of not being safe after dark which may or may not be accurate from block to block. My perception anyway as an 11-year resident of Center City Philly after 10 years in DC. As with anything in life there's usually a good reason why it's such a bargain well after being "discovered".
