Hi, My husband is currently an Air Traffic Controller in the US ARMY. We are currently stationed in Illesheim, Germany. Our tour will be complete in about a year and a half. After it is complete we will have 3 years left in the ARMY. My husband will be putting in his recruiting packet. I am a Health Care Administrator, so i can basically work anywhere that has a medical office. My question is, Which place is a better place to pick as far as housing goes, crime rate, shopping etc.? We want to buy a house and settle down somewhere.. Where is better?
Thanks for posting, however this is the San Antonio forum. I'm not so sure you'll get the most accurate responses here. If I were you, I'd make a posting on the Texas forum, Portland forum (not sure if you're refering to Portland, Oregon... I don't know if we have a Portland in Texas ), and/or the General US forum.
Hope this helps you advance your search!
EDIT: I learned that there is a Portland near Corpus Christi... that must be the one you're referring to. You'll get much better responses on the Texas forum if that's the case. Good luck
ATC's are in demand all over the country, you might want to check on the specific area you would like to live in. It is a very high demand job...but then you need to ensure that the location you want to move to can meet your employment requirements...and I am not at all sure how many are in place/needed for those areas.
Has he considered a larger airport CLOSE to where you want to be? Might be worth looking into if he chooses to stay in that career field.
Good luck and enjoy Germany while you are there...such a GREAT opportunity for travel and sight seeing!!!
