Omaha, the city that defines "average." But most of the hype comes from a small group of deluded individuals, most of whom seem to be very young and naive. If it were the shangri-la they believe it to be, one has to wonder why these people don't spend more time away from the computer.

your stereotypes show your level of understanding. We've had this arguement all too often, and you still seeem adamant that places can't change. I think Omaha gets defended by it's residents from being put into incorrect steretypes, and is pitched to people who have asked for the requirements that Omaha meets. Omaha often does that. It fits many people's ideas of a good place, (medium city, plenty to do) and it is constantly bashed as an oversized cowtown, so yeah, it get's talked up a lot, but is it our fault that people can't open their minds to the idea that it's a good place, or that is a good fit so often for those looking for a new city? I don't think so. But that's just me. I don't think Omaha has always been pitched in the right place, but i think that is changing. We aren't applying Omaha were it doesn't belong anymore from what I've seen.
I wouldn't vote for any sunbelt cities. If anything, they're underhyped (since everyone likes to bash them). The exception would be San Diego; there's a lot of SD love on here.
I voted for Omaha, Chicago, Scranton. In that order. All are good cities, but they get disproportionately high amounts of attention...to the point where it's actually kind of ridiculous.
As for Saint Louis...that was actually an accident. Sorry. I didn't mean to click it.
my first inclination was Scranton (sorry SWB, I do love ya though, lol) - the only city to make my mother cry, LOL.
however, i think SWB is very balanced in his hype. he knows the problems of the city and isn't afraid to express them - i don't think he portrays Scranton as a utopia.
SO......based on the Gen US forum ALONE, I'm going with Omaha. Overall though? Charlotte, hands down.
Easily Chicago... People make it out to be a world-class city which IMO is NOT.
Too many smelly bums, lack of night life, etc
