i would like to know what is the average year income of an american citizen so i could compare to Europe.
Here in Portugal the minimum salary is 450€ (+-600 dollars) per month, and the average salary 800€ (+-1200 dollars).
it's tough to say because America has a HUGE problem with illegal immigrants who will happily work for $400 a month or even less. For legal residents, the minimum per month is roughly $1100-1,400 BEFORE taxes. That would be around $900-1200 after taxes per month.
The thing is it depends on what state you live in. Many states have higher minimum wages than what the federal government dictates. And that is assuming one works a full time job...
And that's just the average, some states don't even meet the federal standard (like kansas) so it could be much less than what one made in Portugal.

im surprised 1200 is average salary in portugal...here, that would barely cover a one bedroom apartment, with nothing left to spare
Last year a i made 31k Euros (46.5 dollars) and it´s a pretty decent salary here....

There's a huge difference because of the cost of living. The average house in San Jose is around $800,000 so obviously the pay there is going to be very high.

There should be a separate list for larger and smaller cities. San Jose and San Francisco don't have too many hot crime spots, at least not as many as NYC, DC, LA, Chicago, etc. Obviously larger cities will bring in more money, but the size of the city and neighborhoods will affect this list greatly in the wrong direction.
