G'day!

For those of you who don't consider yourselves 100% white.
Where do your forefathers come from?

Cheers!

My ancestors were from Normandy in France - that's as far back as my family history has been traced. That's my father's side only...and there have been a lot of branches added to the tree since the 900's. I know that my great-grandfather on my father's side was full-blooded Cherokee Indian, so I'm not 100% white - and who is? Some people think they are, but realistically there are thousands of opportunities for different races to be involved in one's family history...so there is little chance that anyone is 100% anything.

Cherokee-Choctaw on one side. Northern Shoshoni-Black Irish on the other.

Thanks for your reply DeaconJ!
I agree.
That's why I wrote "those who consider themselves 100% white", not "those who are 100% white".

I have plenty of "black Dutch" ancestry. The tricky part is whether or not these black Dutch ancestors were of native American, freed or escaped slave, or some other background. That part is totally unknown and will probably remain so forever.

My great, great grandmother was American Indian. I guess I am one of those mutts that Obama talked about. That is also why I am sensitive to anyone's judging by the color of the skin. I really get amused when someone calls me racist because I did not vote for Obama. I realize that if it had been my great, great grandfather, my life could have been much different. My highest percentage seems to be German. There also seems to be some Scotch Irish and English mixed in there too.

In doing genealogy research and reading about these things, I realize that my Grandfather should have been considered American Indian because he was 1/4 American Indian. You certainly could not tell this by looking at him. He was very white. My father tanned reddish and I do too, but not as much as he did. I have no idea what tribe my great, great grandmother would have been. Her son was from Winston-Salem? He and my great grandmother were never married. I wondered if this was because of the race difference. I guess I will never know that. If they had abortion back then, I might not be here. I am sure it was a great shame that she had an out of wedlock child. Grandpa was a sweetheart. I am so glad he was not aborted.
