It seems like it's lost among people born in the 80's onwards, except in rural areas and maybe some long-standing Southern families, in which it continues even into the smallest children.
I love how so many people don't think they have any accent whatsoever....so provincial! In my experience, MOST people have accents, they just might not be as thick as their grandparents'.
I hope not. I despite how Californian culture is overtaking every other culture. I hate globalization.
I don't think you understand why California is accent-neutral.........it's the melting pot of many many many regions and cultures, with very few "locals" who have been there for multiple generations (like 5+). Regions that are less transient in nature and that have established people who do not ever move tend to have the strongest accents (WV for example). The reason the rest of the country is becoming accent-neutral is probably globalization, yes, but not globalization of Californians.
I don't know. There is something sexy as hell about a fine Black woman w/ a Southern accent. Especially if she is wearing a sundress. I don't mean she sounds ghetto or country. Meh, country is okay too. She speaks with a Southern accent and she is fine as hell! Makes a mothabrotha want some grits and eggs!
