Now, here's an analogy that might help. Let's say you're a good ol' boy from northern Alabama. There's nothing wrong with that, to be sure. Let's say you get forced to live in Manhattan or San Francisco through some twist of fate. Most people there don't care about, and even look down upon the things you and your buddies were into back home: hunting, fishing, stock car racing, college ball, guns, country music (the mainstream Nashville stuff, not the hipster stuff from Portland), and so on and so forth.
Let's say after a year or two of putting up with life there, you were walking down the street one day and you walked by this random non-descript bar and you heard a rousing shout of "ROLL TIDE!!!!!" coming from inside the place. You'd probably jump five feet in the air and peel into a sprint the moment your shoes touched back down on the concrete. You'd run like your butt was on fire to get inside that place. Now that's the kind of diversity you'd be fully capable of seeing the benefit of.
I'm Korean American mixed with some other random things but I've always hung out with the Puerto Ricans, Italians, and other Hispanics. I actually don't really have any Asian friends. When I'm around Hispanics, I tend to speak Spanglish.
