Anybody know what percentage of immigrants in western Europe are from eastern Europe? Isn't the UK getting lots of immigrants from Poland, Ukraine, etc?

"Western Europe" is more a political designation rather than geographical.


Greece is considered Western Europe because, following World War II, it was a free-market, democratic U.S. ally and not a part of the Communist
Soviet Bloc (Eastern Europe)...unlike its immediate neighbors to the north.

@ Minato ku : oh yes , there were masses of foreigners in France in 1931, they even had to build council flats everywhere for them.
And you forget the Scandinavians! there were hundreds of thousands of Scandinavian, their women wearing Burkas back then!
Oh and I forgot France's population was 40 million in 1931, now it's 64 million, but of course it's not because of foreign immigration, it would be racist to think that .

it's not really useful anymore to compare western europe to the USA as political entities in order to draw some conclusion. Comparing the US and the EU would be a much stronger comparison.
