What city, in your opinion, is most livable in the deep south.
meaning...
walkable
transit options bike, bus, train etc..
reasonalbe housing cost (say between 150k to 350k for a 1500sf house in said area)
some history (not necessary to livablity, but a strong asset)
good schools
safe
etc
etc
to make it more interesting...
devide into 3 population sizes...
Metro with 1,000,000+
Metro with 100,000 to 999,999
and Metro with <100,000

You can do all that in Chapel Hill. May be a tiny bit more expensive than your range though, but they have free public buses that run through the whole town at all hours of the day and night.

Well now, she said walkable, and I'm not sure most of those fit that description.
Bring a car in any case you have access to all the outdoors and stuff
You can live on Southside, 5 Points South and not have a car and walk a bunch of places but some of the nice burbs or living further up on Red Mountain I strongly suggest a car.
I have heard a lot of good things about B'ham...some of those southern burbs.
are there any plans for light rail in B'ham?...or other transit.
Theres a fair amount of buses but light rail I don't think so. Some of the buses go out to NEARBY suburbs from what I've been told. The South suburbs are nice and expanding, and well i like all of the burbs for the most part, Trussville in the northeast is very expanding too as is Hoover.
