I thought it would be interesting if we all posted a picture of the best available housing in our respective area's for $150,000.

SAN ANTONIO, TX
3 Bed, 3 Bath, 2579 sq. ft.
$150,000

LAKE FOREST, ILLINOIS -- a suburb 30 miles north of Chicago

Sorry to bust the bracket but lowest anything was this:

$183,000
1 bedroom, 1.5 bath, 400 sq ft, Soviet era functionalist apartment

http://homepics.realtor.com/image9/http/chicagosuburban/listings/large/045/1262309.jpg (broken link)

Move up north to ghetto Waukegan, Illinois and lets see what you can get. High crime, depressing looking area and lots of illegals:

WAUKEGAN, ILLINOIS -- a scuzz bucket 40 miles north of Chicago

$149,000
3 bedroom, 1 bath, 800 sq ft?, old A frame house in sketchy neighborhood

At 150k you simply rent and do not buy not to mention property taxes and heating. Prop taxes are lower in Lake Forest but houses cost more (looking at 500k plus for a starter home), pretty high in Waukegan the one where you can get the house.

HOLY CRAP PEOPLE!!! That is outrageous (compared to here). We bought a 17 acre farm with a 2700 sq. ft. ranch home w/ vaulted ceilings, 9 ft basement ceilings, a HUGE shop/garage with extra large semi size automatic door and has it's own furnace & loft, a large old but in great shape grain house, house barn with stalls, chicken coop, grain bins, multiple sheds and HUGE quanset. We have a coulee that runs through our yard and a very pretty bridge all in a park-like setting with alfalfa.....we paid $67, 000. (that was just shy of 3 years ago). I cannot believe the difference in housing costs!!! I'm flabberghasted!!!

$150,000....I could post a picture of a cardboard box by a park bench, but you get the idea.

Can't get much for a $150K downpayment in SoCal!

Default $67,000

Hope this worked.... This is all the same property, just different angles. 17 acres in Northern ND for $67,000. We will be doing the new siding on the house before long (has to warm up first), but all this for a great price!!! And cheap so we can ACTUALLY put money into it and make it home!! (kid and dog weren't included!!)

That's awesome, but inhumanely cold up there. Some of us would never survive, like me. Brrrrr. I love your arched barn. Is that old?
