Hello,
We are about to close on a beautiful property in Monroe, GA. We live out of state currently. I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to why the crime rate is so high in Monroe?
Thanks!

A lot of it has to do with the area... it's on the fringe of Atlanta's burbs. So with that you'll tend to have a higher amount of crime. It's the nature of living just outside a large city. Monroe itself is a nice town and it has most anything you'd need. If it doesn't you'll be able to drive to Atlanta or Athens for something.
So if your asking if the area is bad, the only thing I'd say is that there's crime anywhere, especially in Metro Atlanta so I wouldn't get too concerned with it.

Monroe is a small town with a large minority (black) population (42 percent) and very high poverty (25 percent).

END OF STORY!

Ummm....that's about the most bizarre statement I've seen in a while. So there's a higher amount of crime in all of the areas at the fringe of the Atlanta suburbs? And it's the "nature of livinf just outside of a big city"? I'd like to see some stats to validate that assertion......

So? Most is black on black? Is that what you are saying?

I can't say for sure about Monroe, but I live in Macon (where black is the majority), and the crime is almost all black-on-black.

Monroe-Funroe. One of my friends lives there. He is a smart guy (went to CofC). They have good schools there, but not as good as say Forsyth County.
