We live in Charleston, SC now, and will be celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary next May.

For a number of reasons we need to stay relatively close to home, but still want to "go somewhere" to celebrate.

Thinking St. Simons Island. Never been. It's a reasonable drive from here.

Would that be a good choice or would Jekyll be better? Would most likely be a long weekend. Just want a relaxing place. We are not party people. So good places to eat, browse shops, take a day sail, walk would be great, and of course a nice place to stay.

Would prefer someplace central so we could walk to things. Anyone have recommendations?

My personal choice would be to stay on Jekyll .It is a lovely and relaxing place to be .I especially love the area for it's historical area (The Radison - The Jekyll Island Club) .It always gives me the feeling of being in a by gone era.
I love to visit St.Simons for day trips when I am in the area .I love Christ Church and the light house. The island though is a bit too busy when it comes to choosing between the two of them for places to stay.

Jekyll is fine, but frankly it doesn't take a day to see all it has to offer. The entrance fee annoys me as well. I would do St Simons, perhaps the King and Prince or even a cottage. There are so many great restaurants and wonderful neighborhoods to explore as well.
Rent a couple of bikes and explore the trails. You'll have a great time.
