Why does it matter? I don't care if the mayor, governor, president, or king is white, black, yellow or green- I want someone in office who's going to do what's right for his constituents.

While I personally don't think it matters, and I would have absolutely no issue voting for someone who happened to be a of a certain ethnicity, IF...they supported the issues I support.

I think for the most part in GA, statewide candidates who happen to be black will also be liberals and Democrats. That will not provide them with a very good shot at getting elected as Gov. Some could blame their race, but I think it's their politics that would matter more.

The problem we have in this country today is that many in the "black community" look at anyone who is black and not a left wing liberal as some kind of sellout. From Clarence Thomas to Michael Steele, Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, and others, the "black community" has treated its own terribly if they don't tow the left wing line.

I could see someone like Kasim Reed having a shot if the rest of his term as mayor plays out well. I recently saw him at the Savannah Ports seminar and it's clear that he has a strong grasp of state issues.

I think Reed shows some promise, and so far I've been impressed by his work as Mayor, but he's only been in the job a short time. He does seem to work well with the legislature and realizes that Atlanta is part of the State of Georgia, and not the other way around.

No one outside of Atlanta or the black population would vote for Reed. He wouldn't have a chance. I could see a Herman Cain type of black conservative having a slight chance, but not anyone to the left of such, politically speaking.

Never. The white population left in GA will never allow it, well (some) of them won't. Majority of whites in GA will continue to vote for the same lame duck Republicans, regardless of what they preach. Saxby, Perdue, Deal. Never mind these days when you walk into a store and whites have foodstamps and try to (HIDE) the card, but some how they are REPUBLICANS.

Also Blacks are generally liberal in GA, such like they are in other parts of the U.S., so for example if we have a black running governor, blacks won't vote for him because he's black and whites won't vote for him because he's white.

Sorry, im not a racist by a long shot, and actually better enjoy hanging out with whites than my own color, but Politics in GA are still decided by race.

I would guess it would be if and when Herman Cain decided to run for governor.

A black Republican will get elected before a black Democrat.
