Given that it's already at the federal appellate court level, I think it will get there soon enough.

The Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage passed by a margin of 76% to 24%. While we will likely see more Democratic legislators here as the state's Latino and African-American population continues to grow, those same groups are actually the most strongly opposed to same-sex marriage (among African-American males the support for the ban reached 90%-10% according to exit polls at the time). As it would require another amendment passed by popular vote to reverse the existing law there is no reason to expect any change here in the state for the foreseeable future unless it is mandated by federal law.

Congratulations folks for once again taking a thread off topic so much it is about to be closed.

Applause.

Read the first post. THAT is the topic. Not your religious or moral views on homosexuality, what you think should happen to "them", etc. The topic is what the comments should be about - that is it. Period.

Thank you

ok I see, well anyway on the topic I don't see that much has changed in the last year in GA.

Has been a lot of movement nationally on the issue but Georgia will probably be one of the last states to recognize gays. The Supreme Court will probably have to force them.

I think this is what we are headed for...I don't see how our federal government can continue to allow discrimination like this without some kind of action.

Well look at it like this, the way things are looking Georgia won't be the last state to do so I mean atleast the gay and lesbian population can say they exist in GA try doing that in Alabama. Personally I don't have anything against homosexuals live and let live if they wanna get married and be miserable like most of the married couples i do know God bless have at it, I see more gay and lesbian couples fighting to get married than I do straight couples you try getting a straight dude to talk about marriage without him heading for the hills. As it's been stated in the post above don't expect a voluntary recognition of homosexuals here without the government forcing them but there's a better chance of that happening than in Alabama for example haha, but that's just my opinion.

Agreed. Mississippi, West Virginia and Arkansas included. Those states are just as conservative as Alabama.

Iowa a socially conservative state? Guess I missed the last century or so.

As far as Georgia, thy will do it eventually - when it becomes politically expedient to do so. All the states will "give in" sooner or later.

It is a moot argument. The "glbt" community has already won acceptance. Almost every family in this country has a g/l member, friend or acquaintance, whether or not they know it or admit to it. Now all it is going to take is time.

No matter what you view on the subject, we are all human beings.
