Watkinsville is hilly, just south of Athens - to Dawsonville is quite a hike or drive. You should find something closer unless you plan on eating breakfast and dinner on the highway every day.

Growing is not much different from other southern areas. Just don't introduce any more non-native plants - we have enuf already!

I am the original poster from June 2010. I see lots of people post questions about possible moves, but I wanted to add that we actually followed through with our plan to move. We chose Watkinsville to buy a home as it seemed to be a desirable place for resale because of the Oconee schools. As far as schools, we chose to go the private route. My teenagers are very active and play various sports year round. We love to garden and have enjoyed our 8 ft tall tomatoes plants. My husband flies frequently out of Atlanta and finds airport access to be very convenient. In all, it was a very good move for us.

Hey thanks for checking in an updating!

Why did you choose private after choosing Watkinsville for the school system?
