I'm very skinny (55KG & 6ft 1in) and i hate people telling me how lucky i am. I try so hard to put weight on. I never tell people they are fat or overweight unless they ask for my opinion.

Obv I will be bias, but i feel its easy being thin and extremely hard to be fat or overweight. Why? because when i try to put weight on Im eating 4 meals a day and it hurts to eat that much, and I can't exercise or enjoy life when my stomach is that full all the time, and the heart burn that comes from being overweight and over eating. Plus the more you eat the more you have to work and do overtime.

I know I am very different to must humans, but if i didn't know about the rest of the world (thru media etc.) I would expect (thru my own experiences) for most humans to be my weight and only 1 in a million type person to be fat. Which i find amusing.

Being tall and skinny all my life I've been called Lurch, asked how the weather is up there, been told every skinny joke there is, what to eat, etc.

These knuckleheads also make fun of people who are fat, short, a different race, nationality, political belief, religion, etc, maybe in their minds they think that they're "normal" and everyone different from them is a strange creature to be comented on. Something like an animal in a zoo.

Insults are not what bother me. I am bothered by having trouble finding clothes that fit, by hard seats that hurt my ass bones. By knowing that when I get sick I'll lose some hard won pounds that I may never get back. Things like that are real problems. Knuckleheads can call me whatever, they show their true colors.

I think it's because being skinny is already "appreciated" and seen as healthy in general, so they would know that somehow it won't affect the person if you're like to them, "yikes, you're so skinny"....

The bottom line is that there are a lot of rude people out there, especially when they're just pot-shotting from a computer screen.

Treat people nicely and respectfully, it's not hard.

I see skinny people as "weak people" always too cold cant handle the climate, when they get ill, they get even weaker, no reserves

I know some skinny people that work all day but dont eat much food, they almost eat like a bird, they might drink something or nibble on a small snack, but they have no desire for food?

very similar to the life of a drug user, they smoke , drink, use drugs and dont really care about eating, but they seem to have energy?

I think a little overweight is actually healthier than lean, or just skin and bones

I've been saying this for years
A fat woman feels exactly the same as a skinny man about their body

I get tired of hearing how lucky I am to be skinny. *********! Luck has nothing to do with it. My whole family is heavy and a few are obese. I've been working out since I was 15. I have always exercised and ate right, That's why I'm not heavy!

My wife is very skinny. People are always telling her how skinny she is. It's quite insulting, since she has always tried to gain weight and can't.

Also, now we have fat female models because we don't women to have a goal to strive for. What about male models? They're all built like adonis's. You don't hear men whining about how it so an unrealistic for a man to have to live up to that image.

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox!! :-)

We need to have an agreed definition of skinny in this thread. it seems different for men and women

For women - it's anyone who is not overweight or obese
For men - it is the almost literal skin and bones look.

So yeah, men and women are speaking of different skinnies here.

But it DOES EFFECT PEOPLE. "Skinny" is an insult, not a compliment. "Slender" or "svelt" is a compliment.

It's not healthier and your comments are ignorant. Thin people are usually not as hungry *because* they are thin! That makes for smaller stomachs and less of a caloric need for basic bodily functions because there is "less body" to support.

Also, much like a percentage of people overweight have "thyroid conditions," and "sluggish metabolism," so do a percentage of "skinny people" have legit medical problems that keep them underweight such as hyperthyroidism, anxiety, faster metabolism, etc.

It's funny that you do admit that they "have energy." That is the opposite of weak.

Not all skinny people are easily "weakened, " colder etc. Likewise, not all overweight people have joint problems, high blood pressure etc.
