Kiran Gandhi, M.I.A. Drummer, Runs London Marathon Without Tampon : People.com

This female runner competes in a marathon without a tampon to raise awareness for those who don't have access to tampons. I understand the cause, and the need??...but she was wearing red tights so the blood was visible to all (great visual for participants (sarcasm).

People across the world are raising awareness for causes that are truly in need. From what I have seen, awareness campaigns are normally well planned and thought out. Furthermore, if done properly and respectfully, the awareness campaign could garner support in terms of funding and education to help those people in need live a normal life, and most importantly, raise money for diseases that lack support.

On the contrary, this highly educated campaigner acted foolishly and disrespected those issues in real need. Given that foolishness, maybe I should start an awareness campaign against toilets because of water waste. This awareness campaign will allow me to be free on where I go....in a restaurant, on the side of the road, standing in the starbucks line, etc because I am raising awareness on water conservation.

If she is a performer - she probably makes a good chunk of change.

Why not purchase a large amount, distribute to those who need the product, and make your cause known respectfully without being gross about it? This isn't about some rare disease that no one is aware of... we are talking monthly cycles here that has occurred since the beginning of woman kind. We don't need the public demonstration.

Women don't need "access" to treated paper for their periods. Modern tampons weren't even invented until 1933, and didn't really catch on until the 1960's because some believed they could cost women their virginity by breaking the hymen. Women can use pretty much anything for absorption. The flow amount is averaged at only 1-2 ounces, which is 2-4 tablespoons. Paper isn't necessary, only a few decades ago even baby diapers used to be cloth. Cloth doesn't have the chemicals, either.
