Maybe a good choice to win an election but a hypocritical choice when your campaign slogan is “America First”. What other decision will he make to pacify his party and its base? Yeah... he's a real Maverick alright.

If you really love and care for America you choose the most qualified person. Heck, there are many other women much more qualified than the Governor from Alaska. If McCain loses we’ll wish he had chosen one of them.

I first read this letter on Obama's website...very interesting.

Everyone voting for Obama or for Palin (as a soon-to-be successor to McCain) must read this.

Anne Kilkenny writes with a left-leaning bias against Sarah Palin, but presents some interesting topics. Some are well explained or debunked by Andrys's references at the end. As a McCain/Palin supporter, I didn't read anything that would change my mind.

you make it good point it was only a letter written by someone who has known palin her whole life....has nothing to gain by her letter ....lived in the same town and had inside info into her dealings....you just cannot trust someone like that....i would rather get my info from "fair and balanced" fox news....

Default The Body

Could the original argument be reframed to ask, what if the Republican VP pick was former Governor Jesse Ventura. Would you still feel good about it? Having served more time as Governor than SP I guess he could claim to be better qualified.

I made a similar topic awhile back in the election subforum.

If it was Todd Palin, there'd be no buzz at all, never mind the fact that he wouldn't be in this situation at all. Palin is a novelty and a celebrity, pure and simple - negating those same labels that pretty much comprised the whole of McCain's case against Obama before picking her. Now he's calling his ticket one of "change" without really detailing how it is any change at all from the status quo, besides some...er, lipstick.

Karl Rove and the GOP masterminds have dumbed this whole thing down to a popularity contest. It's more like a vote for homecoming queen than for president. At least McCain's campaign manager is making no bones about the fact that, for them at least, it's not about the issues.

A) he's not running for the White House (he can't), B) he's too socially liberal to energize the GOP fundamentalist base like Palin and C) he got where he is through a process that was a farce of the electoral process in and of itself. If you might recall, he was running against a motley group that included Gary Coleman of all people.

Only in California.
