No. My aunt and uncle are police officers (he's a detective, she's a sheriff) for the LAPD and they're both INSANE. Extremely racist (wasn't that way before they were cops), just a little on edge all the time, and really paranoid about people in general.
As for my local experience, the cops in my old town 'confiscate' weed from people and then smoke it themselves or sell it.
Overall, yeah, I do have a favorable opinion of the cops.
I have had many confrontations with the police force, due to being quite a drunken socialite from the age of 16. But I always respected that they were doing their job.
I have had a few cops hit on me and get my phone number while I was drunk and underage (note: I was over 18, just not 21 yet). I wouldn't say they were doing anything wrong. They were really nice guys. It did however expose me to the silent corruption within the police force.
I think there are a great number of good cops, who else would get shot at with low pay but people who in general want to serve and protect. However, there are bad cops like there are jerks in every profession. The problem is that you never know who is pulling up in the car, so I usually treat the situation and the officer with a reserved attitude and politeness.
not as far as I could throw most! Very sad to say and also very sad reading these posts and knowing I am not the only one who does not trust our police. Right now in NJ they are filling the budget gap with traffic tickets............
Yet our budget is in the crapper because of double dipping police padding their pension.
Oh and JTur88, you nailed it. The kids that were bullied now carry the badge.
