Education for personal enrichment is fine--there's nothing wrong with pursuing it. But to say that all that education is going to relate to the job they do is another thing altogether.
It is absolutely fine for you to go about your daily life and not participate in the world around you. I don't agree with almost all of your stances. However, to pretend that one does not need education based on what you have managed to get by with is not the measure.
Who says I don't participate? I'm single, so I don't really have a choice in the matter. If I wasn't single, she would do all the participating for me.
I still don't pull out my knowledge of trivia in my day to day pursuits. I acknowledge that it's nothing more than trivia. It's nice to know, but isn't particularly useful, unless I'm playing Jeopardy! or Trivial Pursuit.
