like i said before i currently live VERY comfortably in 400sqft with 2 small dogs 2 cats, a macaw, 2 linneolated parakeets and a 30 gallon fishtank, i have a full sized sectional sofa and a queensized bed. the only thing missing is a full sized fridge/freezer and a sink and those are only not in place because i havent needed a full sized fridge yet (i have an undercounter one) and theres not enough drop space to put in drainage for a sink...
i do have a full bathroom with a soaking tub too!
my couch has a pull out and a recliner and ive had 5 friends staying over at one time...sure they dont get thier own rooms lol, but its comfortable enough for short term visits
now obviously 400sqft is alot larger than 100sqft or under...but it is absolutly perfectly doable ot live in a space under 1000sqft VERY comfortbaly, without giving anything up in terms of comfort.
personally i think id feel a little too tight in anything under 300sqft, but thats only because i will NEVER give up my macaw or my fishtank (my macaws cage alone takes up 10sqft lol) and i want a BIG dog eventually...
but for someone whos not into the material posesions...i dont see why anyone would think you cant "live" in a tiny space...if your social and work, how much time do you ever actually spend at home anyway?
our neighbor has a 800sqft home and he only uses it for sleeping...he whent out a spent a fortune on new furniture when he bought it 5 years ago "because the place looked empty" and most of it is still brand new with tags! he gets up, has breakfast then goes to work, after work he goes out with frineds or other half...he comes home has a shower and goes to bed...literally, hes used his diningroom once, his second bedroom is empty, hes never eaten in the eat in kitchen...
he could happily cut his space in half and not miss a single ounce of it...
plus land yourself somewhere with a nice climate and you can add plenty of outdoor living space ontop of it...
the house im trying to buy is about 650 sqft and that seems absolutly perfect to me. it even has a second bedroom!!!

I just watched someone give a video tour of their tumbleweed house on You Tube and I couldn't finish it because I felt like I was suffering some kind of claustrophobic panic attack. I think I need to go outside now.
I suggest having a trusted carpenter build you something like an "idea box".(see website) I am a GC and built a 660 sq ft awesomely beautiful 2 story 2 bed/1 bath home for 42k TOTAL!!!! I made plenty. I hand white washed the kitchen cabs, open floorplan and great tile counters. Double hung giant windows throughout (30x65) All I can say is I would live in it and that's what most people spend on cars!

my parents own it so i get a good deal on rent (yes i still pay rent lower end of apropriate for the area, to my parents lol) but im moving out of state because i cant afford and just dont "click" here in CT.
once i move out my brother is taking the "apartment" and will be paying the same in rent as i pay.
I already live in a small condo. I would not mind this if I also had a 10,000 ft sq barn, garage, shop and warehouse/library. The books are moving us out.

I'm not sure some people realize how big 400 sq. ft really is. Think 3 rooms each being approx 12x 11 just to get an idea.
My son lives in our 396 sq. ft apartment. It's 3 rooms, 11x17sq. ft bedroom. He's got a queen size bed and dressers and has an entire wall of closets, a 10 by 11 eat in kitchen with apartment sized fridge, dishwasher and breakfast island for 3, full size side by side washer and dryer, full piece bathroom and then theres a decent sized living room. 400 sq. ft is a good space for 1 or 2 people.
I really want the Enesti!!!!!! 843 sq ft for the 3 bedroom model and I would need a basement as those little heaters would never do for a northeastern winter. A good furnace and the rest would be storage and maybe a little gym.
That looks cool. The two bedroom version is about the same size as my 1930 'kit' house. I love that it LOOKS like an old house too. For one person, even two if you have a good solid shed like I plan to add, for the leftover stock, its a good size.
I use the small 'second' bedroom, painted with murals of threes and sky, as my bedroom. It has a large bed accomidating me and assorted furries and a dresser. All you really need in a bedroom.
I'd love a basement, for several reasons, but with the local watertable it would be a very 'green' room. A frequently asked question in this state is why so few houses have basements.

your absolutly right...
i think alot of people see such a relitivly small number and thier brain just sees cramped crowded and tiny...and its realy not that bad...
to me 68sqft is just not quite imaginable to fit all my stuff in...yet 1400sqft to me is huge (the house i rent the apt in is a little over 2000sqft if you include my apartment space) so i can visualize it, but its sooo exsessive, my family uses every inch of space, but for me personally...its too much room...
to other people 2000sqft is too small...
heck my brothers girlfriedns family live in 10,000sqft (yes you read that right) they have 3 other homes in 3 different countries and every room is filled with stuff to the point they realy could do with another couple thousand sqft just to display their collections...
to each his own...but i dont htink anyone realy NEEDS 1500+sqft unless its a very large family + extended family + they dont go out much lol
