A belt driven recycled bicycle, great idea...... for the rich....
Considering that as per the USGS, 3 of the 3.9 million tons of Aluminum used in the US last year was 'recycled' and this bicycle costs upwards of $2000.00 it surely is an extravagant green statement....
It's not absolutely ridiculous, have you priced high end bicycles lately? The rear hub on that bike retails for $360 Just taking a wild guess you might have $600 just for the wheels. Those aren't Wal Mart wheels.
Having said that the green angle is a bit ridiculous, I'd imagine a lot of aluminum products including bikes have a substantial amount of recycled product in them.

It's absolutely ridiculous when it's sold as a recycled product. The other bicycles that are in that price range or higher are not made for the recycle crowd.....
I thought I covered the topic of how much recycled aluminum is used in America:

The cost of bicycles, when you have yuppies and hipsters buying bicycles what do you expect?

Again that's not a Wal Mart bike and yes there is a huge difference. A good bike is not cheap, it's a bit overpriced but not extraordinarily overpriced. Here's something a little similar for $1300:
I know a little bit about bikes, I caught the leading edge of the mountain bike "craze" in the late 80's. I also worked as bike mechanic back then, last bike I bought in 1989 was top of the line mountain bike for almost $900.

I know all about bicycle prices, a couple of years ago had a very long-winded discussion about their environmental aspects with someone here a couple of years ago. My jaw dropped when I saw bicycles >$5,000.00
Whatever, IMO is it's just another environmentalists status symbol.....

In this case it is but in general you get what you pay for just like anything. I owned that bike from '89 up until recently and I rode that bike hard when I was younger. I'd still have it if some SOB didn't steal it.

When I rode my bike in Brooklyn I'd carry it up 4 flights of stairs to my apartment every day...
And it got stolen anyway..... Was a great bike....
Thefts in my area are rare. We had a flood last fall and it effected a small property we had being used for storage where the bike was at. The scrappers were a huge problem taking stuff they shouldn't be taking, the bike was outside in the save pile and they took it. Bastards even backed into my Brothers driveway and stole his oven, whoever took it is lucky becsue at that point he was going to severely injure someone if he found them.
The next time you recycle an empty six-pack of energy drink cans, it may end up in the frame of a ReCycle bike.
