I don't know if this is the right category to post this in but was wondering if anyone agrees with me on this one. I'm all for protecting the environment and keeping people safe but I have not come across a single gas can that sells today that is actually safer or more environmentally friendly than the simple ones they used to sell with the simple plastic cap and the hole on the other end for venting.
These days when I try to pour gas I'm spilling it everywhere, creating a fire hazard and polluting the ground in the process. Plus, the seals on these never seem to tighten all the way so gas will tend to leak from where the nozzle is screwed into place... and of course the cheap plastic contraptions will tend to break more easily than the old style ones where there's no moving parts, requiring more resources to purchase another one, and the sheer fact that they are so frustrating to use has led people like me to purchase multiple models trying to find ones that don't suck so bad. This is one regulation where I'm certain the government is way wrong in implementing and it should be reversed. We got along just fine with old style gas cans without kids blowing themselves up for 50 years.. and now these things come along and are by far worse than the originals.
You can thank the EPA for these new cans, it's nothing to do with safety. The idea is that it closes automatically without some kind of interaction from the user preventing vapors from escaping, of course in their infinite wisdom they forgot to take into account you need to be an octopus to use them.
