What a coincidence. I was watching the Science channel last night and they had a special on the effect an eruption of the area around Yellowstone would have on climate. They calculated that a major eruption from that long dormant area would result in a 25 degree decrease in average temperature. The British team that was asked to calculate the effects of such an event said that most of the US would have snowfall covering the ground continuously for over two years and would wreak havoc with the monsoon rain system in their part of the world wiping out water in that region.
It was really a scary (and humbling) show to watch.
