The old shoplights "F40T12," are more efficient than incandescent but not as efficient as the modern "F32T8" tubes, which are a bit skinnier. If you choose to replace the old F40T12 bulbs with F32T8, not a bad idea, you will have to replace the ballast. Estimated savings: about 20 Watts. If you run them six hours per day that should save about $10 a year.
