The first customer for the Chevrolet Volt also happens to be its largest investor -- the Obama administration.

The White House said today that the government will "purchase the first 100 plug-in electric vehicles to roll off American assembly lines" before the end of the year.

Exactly and how long before they move the factory to Mexico? This temporary factory isn't fooling me.

would you guys rather have government workers driving big tax-wasting gas guzzlers?

I'm a hell of a lot more PO'd by the bank bailout than this kind of stuff, at least we get something tangible out of this (as opposed to enabling finance charlatans to give themselves massive bonuses).

It is sensible to slowly phase-in new purchases as a fleet ages. With this administration's soaring debt the government fleet vehicle numbers need to be reduced greatly. Replacement for replacement sake is not efficiency it is waste.

Obama burns fuel with AF1 and his entourage campaigning all over the country for legislation he has already to signed into law. He cares nothing about fuel conservation. This was a blatant PR stunt to promote Cap & Tax as well as score points with those he's let down through failure to add the green jobs in the US as he promised. All talk, no walk.
