I got a speeding ticket on the way to work today, for going 80 in a 65 (I know, too fast... I guess I just wasn't paying attention -- they got two of us: the cops had one car on an overpass/bridge clocking cars, then two cops on I-40 pulled over myself and the car I was following).
I got the ticket in Alamance County (I live in Durham, but work in Burlington). Now here is the biggest problem... I have a DWI from 2005 in Orange County... so over a year and a half ago when I lived in Wake county, and got another speeding ticket (I know, sorry), the attorney I hired got me a "Prayer for Judgment." I guess I didn't understand it at the time, but now I'm reading that I may be on the hook for both that Wake county ticket AND this one, on both my insurance and license points...
So, what are my options? And/or does anyone know a reliable attorney I can contact in Alamance County?
Yes, a prayer for judgement will default to the ticket if you have another voilation within so many years of the PFJ, I think it's three years, but I could be wrong. You definitely need a lawyer. While I don't know of any in the Alamance County area, I would suggest Joe Williams out of Greensboro. He's an African American attorney with a reputation of getting people out of tough jams, and with Greesboro and Burlington bring so close together, I would be willing to bet that he is well-known in Alamance County, if not, I'm sure he will recommend you to someone.
