Hello, I was wondering what people know of Yanceyville? It appears to be a nice, safe, quiet town not that far from other places in the Triad and Triangle areas. I also heard it's an up and coming town due to the lower cost of living and also because it has more going on than other small towns due to being the county seat.

Its been a while since I've been there, but I always thought of Yanceyville as being an economically depressed, sad place in the middle of nowhere.

The population hasn't changed in 30 years so I'm not sure how up and coming it is.

I've spent a lot of time in Blanch (though not Yanceyville proper) because I have relatives there. Blanch is small and rural. It wouldn't be a place I'd choose to move into unless I were planning to start a farm or otherwise had a very good reason to move there, specifically. On the positive side, it is a close-knit, rural community.

Thanks for your comments. Whatever its past has been, the town's fortunes and any additional population increase depend likely on how well the Triad/Triangle is doing in general, and also how many people begin to feel somewhat ill at ease in bigger cities with increased COVID rates, much higher crime, taxes, and cost of living.

Yanceyville and the county (Caswell) are among the safest towns and places in the whole country according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Report. It's about 20 minutes to downtown Danville, a half-hour to Burlington, and well under an hour to Greensboro and Durham. It seems one could have the best of all worlds there.

How are the schools? I bet they're not good, which will be a major impediment to attracting new commuting residents.

Thanks for your question. I read they are completely renovating the high school in town, Barlett Yancey, to the tune of millions of dollars. There's new leadership there as well. As far as elementary and middle schools go, I believe new families moving in would likely establish a strong PTA presence, which would assist in having better curriculum development. As with anywhere, there are also parochial school options, in this case, less than 20 minutes away in Danville.

It really all depends on what you are looking for, OP. Caswell County is full of beautiful countryside and, as you said, is not all that far from Danville or the Triangle. If you think the small-town life might be for you, then check it out!

All schools in the county are rated as "C" or "D" by the state.

Are you looking to actually move to Y'ville, or are you just here to promote it?

For what it's worth, there is/has been a disproportionate amount of Klan activity in Caswell County (and Alamance County) throughout its history.

From an article in the Raleigh News & Observer, Nov 2018:
Quote:
... and to this day, the Caswell County town of Pelham remains the home of the Loyal White Knights, one of the country’s larger KKK groups. The Knights made headlines in 2016 when they held a victory parade to celebrate Republican President’s Donald Trump’s election win.

Thanks. I am looking at buying a home there. I'm aware of the school rankings, which are just that, and do not always reflect reality. For example, what I mentioned above etc. I do not have school-age children, however.
