depending where you are, at&t or embarq I believe are the only two. Just curious, do you have to have a home phone? I have been living without a landline for about 10 years now and haven't missed it. I only use a cellphone now. I did get a MagicJack last year so I could have an alternate number and to fax, works great and at $40 for the first YEAR and $20/yr after, you'll pay that in just taxes on a landline. But you do have to have an always on internet connection. Just throwing some options out there to you since the landline to me is overpriced, overrated and going the way of the dinosaur.
I am getting a security system installed and it requires a phone line otherwise no I would not need one. I doubt I will use it ever but it will be worth it to have the security.
You can bundle your internet, cable and phone with Time Warner. We use Vonage - would that work for your security system? For $25 we get unlimited long distance, voice mail and caller I.D. We haven't had any issues with it either.
If you're just looking for just a phone line for security, ask them if they offer a security system rate or there's another term for a cheap line that I can't remember (tariff rate maybe). Those should run you $10-$15 per month, but is only for the most basic plan.
Well, on the other side of Burlington, Mebane area, CenturyTel does land lines, DSL's et al.
